Lallybroch is open again for visitors

Midhope Castle near Edinburgh has become famous as Lallybroch , Jamie Fraser’s ancestral home , in TV series Outlander. The good news for all Outlander fans , and anyone else who wants to explore this 500 year old castle , is that Midhope / Lallybroch is now open again after the pandemic closure. Lallybroch – the early home of Sam Heughan’s character Jamie Fraser – was temporarily closed at the tail end of last year due to the travel restrictions put in place by the Scottish government. The castle featured as an exterior film setting during both Season 1 and 2 of Outlander.Home to the Fraser family it is lovingly known as Lallybroch (meaning lazy tower) and is described by Claire (Caitriona Balfe) as “a handsome three-story manor of harled white stone”The 16th-century townhouse is just 15 miles outside of Edinburgh.
Anyone intending to visit must pre-book their tickets in advance, they can be booked online .

Plans were recently approved to build a new whisky distillery at the site of the castle.
Midhope Castle Distillery Company says the new project aspires to transform the location and will draw “inspiration from historic features” at the site.As well as building a whisky distillery site, the unveiled plans include restoring the castle to include visitor accommodation
