The castle has existed as a tantalising boundary — visible from the outside, but imagined within. In reality, the location is Midhope Castle, and opening interior access fundamentally changes the visitor experience. It moves fans from observation into immersion. See Update December 2025 above – it is now possible to go inside Midhope Castle. Midhope Castle / Lallybroch is a derelict property . Although external scenes were shot at the castle , none of the filming of Lallybroch interior scenes in Outlander took place inside the castle itself. All the interior scenes for Lallybroch are shot inside a film studio.
