In reality, the location is Midhope Castle, and opening interior access fundamentally changes the visitor experience. It moves fans from observation into immersion. See Update December 2025 above – it is now possible to go inside Midhope Castle. Midhope Castle / Lallybroch is a derelict property . Although external scenes were shot at the castle , none of the filming of Lallybroch interior scenes in Outlander took place inside the castle itself. All the interior scenes for Lallybroch are shot inside a film studio.
