2 . Doune Castle ( Winterfell )

Game of Thrones gifts and tours to Doune castle, visit Doune castle

Located near Stirling, Doune Castle is one of the most recognisable filming locations in Scottish cinema and television. In Game of Thrones, it appeared in the original pilot episode as Winterfell, the ancestral home of House Stark. Though later episodes used sets and different locations in Northern Ireland, Doune Castle played a key role in establishing the grim, northern feel of the Stark stronghold. The castle’s atmospheric stone walls and tower provided a perfect backdrop for the scene of the Feast of Winterfell in episode one . Sadly the GOT crew never came back to Doune . It’s also famously used in Outlander and Blood of my Blood as Castle Leoch and in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. 3. Linlithgow Palace ( King’s Landing )

The ruins of Linlithgow Palace, located between Edinburgh and Glasgow, were thought to have represented King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms. The dramatic façade and regal architecture would have lent themselves well to scenes of political intrigue and royal power. Though not featured prominently, the palace’s inclusion might have added an air of grandeur and deep history fitting for the seat of the Iron Throne. A stunning royal palace ? Absolutely . But a real Game of Thrones film location – sadly not !

4. Blackness Castle ( Dragonstone )

Often called “the ship that never sailed” because of its unique shape, Blackness Castle on the Firth of Forth was rumoured to have been used as Dragonstone, the ancient seat of House Targaryen. Its weathered stone and seaside location gave the perfect windswept, isolated atmosphere associated with Dragonstone. This location was also featured in Outlander as Fort William, and its eerie appearance has made it popular among fans of dark fantasy storytelling. A unique castle ? Yes . A real Game of Thrones film location ? – Not one of the GOT Scotland locations

5. Callander ( Robb Stark’s Camp )

Nestled in the Trossachs, the picturesque town of Callander was used as the site of Robb Stark’s military camp during the infamous episode “The Rains of Castamere”. This area’s lush Highland landscape captured the rugged terrain of the North and the Riverlands. Though it had a brief appearance, its contribution to the show’s realistic, war-torn scenery is unforgettable. Our toll free booking  number is  1-866-233-2644  ( US and Canada ).
