The castle has existed as a tantalising boundary — visible from the outside, but imagined within. In reality, the location is Midhope Castle, and opening interior access fundamentally changes the visitor experience. It moves fans from observation into immersion. Being able to stand inside Jamie Fraser’s ancestral home is the kind of once-in-a-generation development that reshapes tour expectations overnight. This development confirms that the full refurbishment of Lallybroch will go ahead and some time soon fans will be able to stay in Lallybroch .

See Update December 2025 above –   it is now possible to go inside Midhope Castle. Midhope Castle / Lallybroch is a derelict property . Although external scenes were shot at the castle , none of the filming of Lallybroch interior scenes in Outlander took place inside the castle itself. All the interior scenes for Lallybroch are shot inside a film studio.
