1 Lallybroch Castle / Broch Tuarach ( Midhope Castle )
The first location on this tour is Lallybroch Castle – Midhope Castle, ancestral home of Jamie Fraser . Outlander scenes were shot at Midhope Castle on the Hopetoun Estate near Edinburgh .
Midhope was built in the 15th Century by John Martyne, laird of Medhope. It was rebuilt in the mid 1600s and remains much the same today. Castle Lallybroch is the ancestral home of Jamie Fraser and features heavily in Outlander . The prequel Blood of my Blood is sure to feature Lallybroch as it is the home of Jamie Fraser’s father. Season 8 filming took place at Lallybroch .
The interior of Midhope is inaccessible , although exciting new plans have been announced to refurbish Lallybroch to allow visitors to stay in the castle .
Midhope Castle is a 16th-century tower house, used as Lallybroch (also known as Broch Tuarach) in Outlander. Left to Jamie by his parents, Brian and Ellen, Lallybroch is also home to Jamie’s sister, Jenny, her husband Ian Murray and their children. Lallybroch is a crucial part of Jamie Fraser’s life in Outlander . In Outlander Jamie calls Claire Sassenach as a term of affection. 3 Falkland – Inverness
The last location on this Outlander tour is the historic town of Falkland , featuring the Bruce Fountain . Falkland was Inverness in the first episode of Outlander. Claire and Frank stay in Mrs Baird’s guest house in the town centre . Claire buys a vase in Farrell’s hardware shop near the Bruce Fountain . In a night scene Frank is walking back to the guest house and he sees someone ( Jamie ) standing next to the Bruce Fountain staring across at Claire at the window in the guest house . Frank approaches Jamie but he leaves before he can speak to him . Jamie’s ghostly appearance is yet to be explained , although hopefully the final Outlander book will offer an explanation .
