Doune Castle was Castle Leoch in Outlander and this is where Claire met Colm Mackenzie and his clan . The audio tour is recommended as it includes narration by Sam Heughan ( Jamie Fraser from Outlander ) and Terry Jones from Monty Python . Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed at Doune . An Explorer pass gives skip the line access to 70 castles and country houses run by Historic Environment Scotland including Doune Castle and Edinburgh Castle . More details below.

Entrance to Doune Castle costs £9 per person including the audio guide narrated by Sam Heughan ( Jamie Fraser from Outlander ) and Terry Jones from Monty Python . Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed at Doune .The tour at Deanston distillery costs £9 per person . This includes a whisky tasting and a voucher for £5 towards the purchase of a Bottle of whisky .
