I have visited Culross many times and it is a fascinating historic village . About 8 years ago I was driving through Culross and I saw a huge crowd of people in Highland dress going into what I later realised was catering tents. I didn’t know at the time but they were filming Outlander in the village .

In the first season, Culross provided the backdrop to scenes involving Geillis Duncan, the enigmatic character whose story became central to the mysteries surrounding Claire and Jamie. The village square and its surrounding wynds were transformed to portray bustling 18th-century life, complete with market stalls, townsfolk, and of course, the ominous pillory where harsh punishments were meted out. The setting of Culross captured the essence of Cranesmuir’s darker moments while still showcasing the charm and authenticity of Scotland’s historic architecture.
