Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2, Episode 1: What Happens in “Remembrance Day”?
Trouble ahead.
The season premiere answers the cliffhanger at Craigh na Dun, but it separates Henry and Julia Beauchamp in a startling way. When they attempt to travel through the stones with their baby, William, Henry reaches the 1920s but , tragically , Julia and William remain in eighteenth-century Scotland. The family’s hoped-for escape becomes a new struggle to find one another.
Henry wakes in an asylum in Inverness. His account of travelling through time is treated as evidence of illness, and the electric shock treatment he receives leaves him confused about his memories and deepens his PTSD . Two familiar Outlander figures, Mrs Graham and a young Reverend Wakefield, visit him. Mrs Graham’s willingness to consider his story gives Henry a reason to believe he might yet return to Julia and William.
Back in the eighteenth century, Julia has to protect her son without Henry beside her. She returns to Castle Leathers, the home of Lord Lovat, while trying to keep her origins and Henry’s disappearance from putting them in greater danger. Her search for help draws her towards Maisri, whose gift for prophecy may offer insight into what happened at the stones. Julia’s story makes the consequences and downside of time travel immediate : even though Henry has reached their own century, she and William are still trapped in the past.

The other love story also begins under pressure. Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie hope for a future together, but clan loyalties and the consequences of Ellen’s broken engagement stand in their way. Colum does his best to tighten his control over Ellen, while Brian and Murtagh face the danger created by their escape. Around them, political tensions are building towards the Jacobite rising of 1715. The episode keeps those larger events close to the characters’ private choices.

Scotland gives these threads their setting. Craigh na Dun is the crucial fictional stone circle; Inverness is where Henry finds himself after crossing. Castle Leathers and Castle Leoch anchor the eighteenth-century story. For visitors interested in the production, Historic Environment Scotland identifies Balvaird Castle with Castle Leathers and confirms that the series has also filmed at Doune Castle, associated with Castle Leoch. HES have also confirmed filming took place at Blackness Castle , although it is not clear which location this castle represented .
Last year I visited Doune and Blackness Castle and I can confirm that filming took place at both castles .

But then …. The appearance of Mrs Graham and Reverend Wakefield might offer Henry some assistance . These 2 characters connect Claire’s parents’ story directly to people viewers know from the original series. It is a premiere built around separation, with both couples struggling to choose their own futures.
