Itinerary
1 . Lallybroch – Midhope Castle
The first location on this tour is Lallybroch – Midhope Castle, ancestral home of Jamie Fraser . Outlander scenes were shot at Midhope Castle on the fringes of the Hopetoun Estate near South Queensferry.
Midhope was built in the 15th Century by John Martyne, laird of Medhope. It was rebuilt in the mid 1600s and remains much the same today.
The interior ofMidhope is inaccessible .
Midhope Castle, a 16th-century tower house, is used as Lallybroch(also known as Broch Tuarach) in Outlander. Left to Jamie by his parents, Brian and Ellen, Lallybroch is also home to Jamie’s sister, Jenny, her husband Ian Murray and their children. Lallybroch is a crucial part of Jamie Fraser’s life in Outlander . In Outlander Jamie calls Claire Sassenach as a term of affection .

2 . Hopetoun House
Outlander at Hopetoun House
Hopetoun House is the setting for the home of the Duke of Sandringham in Series 1. These scenes were filmed in the Red Drawing Room
- The Sea Trail and West Lawn to the rear of the House was the location for the dual between the Duke and the head of the McDonald clan.
- The rear steps of the house were the scene for a sword fight in Season 1
- The courtyard behind the Stables Tearoom features regularly as a Parisian street location in Series 2.
3 . Culross
Culross is Scotland’s most complete example of a burgh of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Mercat Cross (in the centre of Culross) acted as the centre of Cranesmuir.
Geillis Duncan’s house and the town square where Geillis is sentenced to burn for being a witch.
Jamie and Claire rescue the thief, Tammas, when his ear is pinned to the post.
Laoghaire’s home can be seen, near Mercat Cross, on Little Causeway. A number of interior scenes were filmed inside the Palace .
Built in 1597 by Sir George Bruce, the Laird of Carnock , it was visited by King James VI in 1617. It is now owned and cared for by the National Trust for Scotland.
White-harled houses with red-tiled roofs line the steep cobbled streets which run from the market cross to the hilltop abbey. In the centre is the ochre-coloured palace with its beautifully reconstructed period garden, complete with herbs, fruit and vegetables, and rare Scots Dumpy hens. The Palace features in TV series Outlander.
