Filming for Fast & Furious 9 will shut down many of Edinburgh’s streets in September as Vin Diesel and his gang of street car racers hit the roads.
Production for the ninth film in the ongoing series begins on Waterloo Place in Edinburgh, while it is thought 52 roads are set to be closed during the course of filming which will last until 22 September.
Road diversion signs, set building, and cranes can all be seen in the snaps taken across the historic city.,
It is thought 800 crew members will descend on the city with many billing it ‘one of the largest and most complex shoots ever’ to film in Edinburgh’s historic Old and New towns.
Edinburgh News reports that Waterloo Place will be closed entirely ‘except for local access from Regent Road to Calton Hill’ until 12 September.
‘Calton Road is also set to shut from Calton Hill to the entrance of Waverley Gate Gate car park until 10pm on the same date’,’ reports the local paper.
Filming in Scotland comes after the crew were spotted shooting a high-energy chase sequence along The Mall in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The scene, involving police vehicles and a sporty supercar was filmed under the Union Flags in front of London’s Buckingham Palace.
The Fast & Furious 9 cast are two and a half months into filming for the next installment in the adrenaline-fuelled blockbuster saga, and Vin Diesel recently revealed he has been impressed with John Cena, the franchise newcomer on set.
Speaking in an Instagram video, Diesel said: ‘We’re all on set here at Fast 9 and it is another amazing location, the locations in this movie have been incredible from Thailand to LA, all through Europe.
‘I’m doing an intense scene today with John Cena, who is killing his character. He’s gonna blow you away when you see him in Fast.’
